Winter Programs (December – March)
Nature Canoeing
In the shining diamond dust, under the arches of soft rime, let’s go out and explore the natural splendor. While Lake Kussharo gets frozen, Kushiro River still runs unfrozen. Grab the proper gear, and you are ready for the fun and unique experience of canoeing in the wintertime.
NOTES:
- All participants are going to wear dry suits so as to stay dry and safe during the tour even if they fall into the water. The dry suits are to be worn over regular clothes.
- Please check your health conditions in prior. You cannot join if you are pregnant, drunk, or have heart disease.
- Held with the minimum of 2 participants.
- Participants must be 13 years or older.
- Program may be canceled due to weather conditions.

Snowshoe Trekking
Put these snowshoes over your regular winter shoes, and go out into the wintry fields. You can walk in deep powder with ease, and you may also find some tracks of wild animals.
What to wear?
Show up in winter clothes such as ski suits. Don’t forget the hat and gloves too. Please note that the tour may be canceled due to weather conditions.

Smelt Ice Fishing
Fun and tasty experience on the frozen surface of Lake Abashiri
Drill a hole through the thick ice and sink the rig, and voila! Sometimes you can even catch a few at a time. And right on site, we will cook smelt tempura…a truly unique experience that makes you even forget the cold.
Notes
- Show up in warm clothes such as ski suits.
- Don’t forget the hat and gloves (preferably waterproof ones).
- Please note: there are days when you cannot catch any fish.
